All About Exfoliation – The Do’s & Don’ts

As you probably already know exfoliating your skin can remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, unclog your pores, and keep your skin looking clear and healthy. While it sounds like an exfoliator can be a good thing, too much can cause redness, dryness and irritation. In this post I am going to talk to you girls about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to exfoliating.

DO choose a gentle exfoliator – When picking what scrub you would like to use on your face make sure you are looking for products that contain little rounded beads. If you are using products that contain larger beads this could cause the skin to potentially get irritated and do the opposite affect  – it can make pores seem larger and you end up defeating the purpose. Make sure you are choosing an exfoliator that is right for YOUR skin type.

DO exfoliate before bed time – They say that you should exfoliate before bed because this is the time when the skin is renewing itself.

DO use an exfoliator with lactic acid- Using products with this ingredient can help with brightness and has anti-aging properties. Lactic acid also helps with smoothing the skins texture along with sweeping away those dead skin cells without making the skin dry.

DONT use an exfoliator on broken/ irritated skin – If your exfoliating and it starts to hurt then stop. You could be causing more harm then good. Give your skin a break.

DONT over do it – This is really important. There is NO need for you to exfoliate more then 2 times a week. You don’t want to harm your skins barrier. One to two times a week is enough.

Here are some of my picks!

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation- Matte & Poreless + Maybelline Face Primer

Hey loves!

I have been trying out the new Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation along with the new primer that they just recently came out with. I wanted to let you know my thoughts if any of you are thinking about purchasing these items.

I picked up my foundation at CVS for $8.99 and got the color 115 Ivory. I came to this conclusion because before I buy any product I always try to do some sort of research ( especially products that are going on my face). On the Maybelline website you can take a short quiz and they will match you up with your perfect shade. When my results came back ivory, I was happy because normally that is the foundation color I would wear. When picking this product up from the store the first thing I noticed was how pink the foundation looked in the bottle. I went ahead and grabbed it anyway hoping I could make it work. I also ended up buying the new Maybelline Primer at Target for $7.99 and posted that haul a few days back on my blog. They had three different choices and I picked up the blur and smooth one.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless

Maybelline Face Primer- Blur & Smooth

This foundation received both positive and negative comments- Here is what I think:

Before I applied the foundation on my face I made sure I moisturized and then went ahead and put the primer in my problem spots (t- zone). I really liked how this primer went on my skin- felt like another layer of my moisturizer while still remaining light weight on the skin. Then I went head and started applying the foundation. The second I put it on the back of my hand to start applying/ dotting on my face I noticed that same pink tint that I mentioned earlier in this post. I also realized how THICK this  foundation was. So thick I could hardly get it out of the bottle ( WTF, happen to anyone else ??). After buffing it out with my beauty blender I did notice it cling to some dry patches around my nose and on my chin. Nothing to crazy but it was noticeable close up in the mirror. As the day continued I actually really liked how the foundation was setting on my skin. I applied this foundation at 8am and it’s now after 5pm and I am noticing that it did settle into some smile lines on my face- again nothing to crazy. I do not agree with the statement that this foundation is going to make your skin poreless. I could still see some of my pores after applying the foundation.

All and all, I have mixed feelings about this. My all time favorite foundation is my Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation- if you guys haven’t heard of that it is a matte foundation with full on coverage. It’s thicker then most foundations and that’s why some people tend not to like it —- but in my opinion this stuff was 1000 times thicker and more drying on the face compared to my holy grail foundation. I did love the feeling of the primer and will continue to use that – but this foundation I am not sure about. I am going to give it a few more tries before I fully give up!

Do you guys have any tips that I could try? Have you tried this foundation? Maybe I should purchase the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth Foundation instead and see if I get better results from that? Would any of you want me to do that and make a post in a few weeks with my thoughts?? Let me know in the comments below!

Book Find At Target…

Hey girls,

As I posted a few days I went to Target and picked up some new things I have been meaning to get my hands on. I don’t know about you guys but I could literally stay in Target all night. I love that store. ANYWAYS… I was wondering off into the book section and came across a booked called GREY by EL James. Immediately I noticed that this was the same author who wrote the 50 shades of grey series that blew up this year. I did read the series but I had no idea that the author was publishing another book. I obviously picked it up and read the back of the book to see what it was about…. this book is told from Christian Grey’s perspective.

I am excited to start reading this! Did you guys know this was coming out?? I didn’t hear anyone mention it and when I saw it I was completely shocked!

Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist

Has anyone heard of or tried the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist??

This product is all over Youtube right now and is said to be used by Kim Kardashian. I mean look at her luminous flawless skin! This stuff is very expensive ($48) but I heard that with the results it is totally worth it. As I have mentioned before I do struggle with super dry skin. This mist is suppose to give you dewy skin while hydrating the face. This mist is different than others because it doesn’t contain high levels of alcohol which can cause the skin to become dry. It says this product is ideal for dry to combo skin.

When using this spray it says to shake the bottle then hold about 6 inches away from your face and spray one to two times.

I am thinking about splurging & buying this!

What are your favorite mists?? Let me know in the comments below.

Lashes Galore- Holy Grail Must Have Mascaras!

If there is one thing you need to know about me it is that I am a mascara junky. I love trying out new mascaras and I find myself constantly buying them.  We all want those gorgeous long and full lashes to make our eyes pop without them getting over clumpy. I tend to look for mascaras that will give my lashes volume, length, and the full definition that everyone craves!

I thought that I would share with you my holy grail status mascaras that I use. No matter what kind of lashes you want I think I picked a good top 5 to satisfy every look and need that you girls would want. Here are my picks!

Too Faced- Better Than Sex Mascara ( $24)

sex

Better Than Sex Mascara

This mascara has the strangest name but everyone was raving about it on Youtube and now I know why. This wand was a little big when I first opened the tube and that made me nervous. The last thing I want is mascara all over the eye shadow that I just did. But when I gave it a shot I was AMAZED with the results. This mascara’s wand is said to be inspired by the curves of a woman’s body. ( I am not kidding, haha) With the hour glass brush shape the bristles were designed to maximize the collagen formula while making your lashes very black. What I love about this mascara is how curled and super thick they look after I am done applying. I find I do need to use about 3 coats to get the super full look I like but I don’t mind. This mascara is great….better than sex as Too Faced would say!

Urban Decay- Perversion Mascara ( $22)

per

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

I recently just discovered this when I got a sample at Sephora, I think it was part of a 100 point perk. This is good stuff! It gives me the stand out lashes that I crave. It doesn’t leave your eye lashes sticky or clumpy and remains on the lashes ALL DAY. The wand makes your lashes separated, long, full, and defined. This is the mascara that I tend to wear everyday. I curl my lashes with my lash curler, put on a few coats of this and I am ready to head out the door. This mascara, as stated on the Sephora website, is also said to have a bunch of different good benefits as well:

“This formula is not sticky or clumpy, and it contains Hairdensyl, a complex blend of proteins and amino acids that are known to stimulate lash growth.he honey extract provides deep nourishment, sea idrolized elastine stimulates the hair follicle, and marine collagen protects.”

Can this mascara get any better? I think not!

Giorgi Armani- Eyes To Kill Mascara ($32)

eyes

Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara

This mascara does amazing things to my lashes. What I truly love about this mascara is that it can be worn as a more natural look or you can add more coats to create that dramatic cat-eye effect. Another plus to this amazing mascara is that the formula gives you thickness/ fullness without getting clumpy. This mascara is extremely pigmented and makes my lashes nice and dark. This mascara is everything you would want!

Benefit- They’re Real Mascara ( $22)

benefit

Benefit They’re Real Mascara

When Benefit came out with this mascara I was so excited to try it. It claimed to give you that false eye lash look without wearing false lashes( obv ). This has been a staple in my collection. What I love about this product is the wand; this is what makes your lashes look so perfect after using this product. The wand was designed to grab onto the root of your lashes boosting both length and volume. This formula was extremely long lasting and didn’t clump. It curled my lashes and gave them volume like you wouldn’t believe!

Wet n’ Wild- Mega Length Mascara( $3)

mega

Wet n WIid Mega Length Mascara

I will purchase this drugstore mascara every time I run out of it. It has grown to be one of my favorites. When I want super long lashes this is always what I reach for. This mascara’s wand has bristles that are very separated and the wand itself is long and narrow. It is the perfect mascara for your bottle lashes as well. It says it gives up to 80% longer lashes and I completely agree with this statement. It gives lash by lash separation and for 3 dollars …. you literally cant go wrong!

Those are my top 5 picks! These are the mascaras that stood out to me after all the brands I have tried. Whenever I run out of these I find myself constantly repurchasing. How about you guys?? Do you guys OBBSESS over mascara like I do ?? What are your all time favorites and what kind of lash look do you like? Full, length, volume?? Let me know.

What’s In My Leather Backpack?!

Happy Sunday!!

I love these posts, seeing what’s in other peoples bags and what they bring around with them on a day to day basis. Today I am going to share whats in my leather backpack. I recently just got this a few weeks ago and have been obsessed with it. It’s the perfect size and I love this new carrying your backpack as a purse trend that I am seeing everywhere on the streets. I got mine at Target for $30 and I couldn’t be happier with it. I love the gold buckles and zippers and the leather isn’t something that looks cheap. The leather is actually pretty thick and this bag is big enough to hold all my essentials. The look and feel to this backpack feels like high quality.

Heres a picture of my bag, I will put the link below if you guys want to purchase the bag yourself or look to see whatever else target has to offer. They do have similar backpacks to this one in bright fun colors. If your looking for something to add color to your outfit this would be the perfect accessories at an affordable price.
